Describe your role at Centri
I'm the Principal Content Engineer at Centri, where I lead the development of our practical cybersecurity training and certifications. My role involves managing a global team of content engineers, designing realistic labs and exam environments, developing certification content, and ensuring everything we produce reflects real-world attack techniques and defensive practices. I'm always looking at ways we can innovate and provide learners with the most engaging, hands-on experience possible.
What do you do to deliver the best experience for prospective clients?
Everything we build is designed with the learner in mind. I focus on creating content that is realistic, technically accurate, and genuinely useful rather than simply ticking boxes. Whether it's a training lab, certification exam, or learning module, I want people to come away with skills they can confidently apply in the real world. I also work closely with colleagues across the business to gather feedback and continuously improve our content.
What does a day in your work life look like?
No two days are ever quite the same. One day I might be building a complex Active Directory lab, the next I'll be writing course material, reviewing technical content, mentoring the engineering team, or planning future certifications. There's a healthy mix of technical development, project management, and collaboration, which keeps every day interesting.
What drew you to Centri?
Centri stood out because of its focus on quality, innovation, and helping people genuinely develop their cybersecurity skills. The culture was another huge factor for me. It's a progressive company where people are trusted, supported and genuinely looked after, with plenty of great perks and opportunities to develop. One of the highlights each year is the Global Connect event, where it's fantastic to meet colleagues from around the world in person. Building those relationships face-to-face makes working together throughout the year even more rewarding.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The people are what make Centri special. I enjoy working with talented colleagues across different departments, collaborating to improve processes and having the opportunity to influence how we continue to grow as a company. From a technical perspective, I love solving problems and creating things that people genuinely enjoy using. Seeing someone complete one of our certifications or tell us they've learned something valuable from content we've created is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy leading a fantastic team and helping them turn ambitious ideas into reality.
What's your background?
I'm an ex-RAF engineer and have also worked within the UK Government, giving me over a decade of experience in cybersecurity. During that time I've worked across a wide range of roles in both the offensive and defensive security space, from penetration testing and security operations through to being part of an agile software development team. That varied background has given me a broad understanding of how organisations build, secure and test modern systems, and it's something I draw upon every day in my current role.
What are your ambitions for Centri and your career in particular?
I'd love to see Centri become one of the most recognised providers of practical cybersecurity training and certifications worldwide. Personally, I want to continue pushing the boundaries of hands-on learning by developing innovative training environments, mentoring future content engineers, and helping shape the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy keeping fit, running, and spending time with my family. I'm always learning something new, whether that's exploring emerging cybersecurity techniques or improving my Spanish (Its getting there!). I also enjoy attending cybersecurity conferences and staying connected with the wider security community.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
My career ambitions changed quite a bit growing up! At one point I was convinced I was going to be a rockstar. Unfortunately, musical talent wasn't one of my strengths, although sometimes it feels like my team and I are the rockstars of the cybersecurity training world with everything we've achieved together.
I've also always been a bit of a technology nerd. I had my own PC from a very young age - yes, one with a floppy disk drive! I was fascinated by how computers worked, so ending up in cybersecurity feels like a natural fit. It combines problem-solving, technology and continuous learning, which are all things I've always enjoyed.
